Hurrican Irene & Happy Labor Day

Once she hit Richmond, Hurrican Irene was only a category 1 storm but she certainly did a good bit of damage.  Most of Richmond was without power for at least a few days, we were down for five.  More importantly, I had no internet for EIGHT days!  I really never realized how much the internet has woven itself around my life until I was screaming, like a banshee, at the tenth person at my cable company who was telling me the tenth different thing in the last forty-eight hours of my personal "internet dark ages".  I don't want to hear the word "hurricane" again unless, of course, you are offering me one of these...

On the subject of cocktails, Happy Labor Day!  I hope you are enjoying a delicious chilled something and savoring the last "official" moments of Summer.  I say "official" because Summer can linger on until October here in Virginia and, as my friend, Tish, reminded me she needs Summer clothes until November in Alabama!  So there will be some more warm weather fashions available, while I start to mix in some fabulous Fall offerings.

Well I am off to catch up on one meeeeeeeellion emails and honor the annual festival of:

The Retiring of the White Pants

Okay, it is not a sanctioned "festival" (there is no funnel cake vendor or need for parking attendants) but calling it a festival makes it feel less like a sad chore.  But wait, maybe I am rethinking the festival this year...

  1. I love white pants and would rock them year round; except it is a sin in my southern family. Even if the almighty fashion guru's say it's okay to rock white after labor day, my family, with their deep southern roots, will always forbid it.
