What is it about black & white stripes (with red) that makes us feel so "French" and soooo CHIC?

Coco Chanel first made this look popular by incorporating the French sailor stripe into her wardrobe and collections. Audrey Hepburn is also another iconic figure that wore this look.

I don't know if I would have thought to put these two pieces together but something about the stripes and the geometric print on the skirt just really "work"!
